Friendly Neighborhood Magical Girl!

Who is she?

She's your friendly neighborhood magical girl... Kamiko!

Her real name's Natsumi, though. I bet you didn't know that, because I never told you. And now you know.

The gods call her Kamiko (god child).

The ghosts, demons, gremlins, call her Kamisama (goddess).

But those who know her best... know her by her mortal name... call her Natsumi...

Ya know, like her sister...

Who could this tall lady be? And what's so scary about her? I mean how tall could she really be? 9 ft. 6 in.?

And the tall lady, Natsumi/Kamiko is looking for? Could she be Datsu-ba, the old woman of the Sanzu River?

Who knows, but being a neighborly magical girl, she'll help these ghosts out. After all, they can see her, and she's the only one who can help 'em.

Or... she she?

Website Woes

Do you know how old This Mortal Coil's website is?

It feels about as old as the words.

And maybe like Hamlet's speech, it's time for this incarnation of the website to get shuffled off of it.

I built this site in 2010 and I've maintained it and changed it over the past 11 years now.

And some jankiness has begun to worm its way into. I'm noticing how slow it can be. Outdated.

Hell, I'm not a super fan of the color scheme anymore. Yeah, The Rabbit and the Moon was black and white, but going forward, new comics won't be like that.

I feel like there needs to be something new.

Ligher. Speedier. SEO friendlier. And maybe less Wordpress.

Aside from drawing this comic, I'm taking my time and sinking my mental teeth into what's new out there in terms of web development. I have some half-baked ideas. It's a matter of sitting down and doing the hard work of testing these ideas and building some prototypes, and seeing what really does work.

What can I keep from this site? What will the new things be? Will I finally add color to the website?

I'm looking forward to that. It may take some time away from drawing the comic. I intend to release something new every Saturday. There are, BTW, comics for 7 more weeks, and maybe some filler for 4 additional weeks before I really start scraping around for other material. I am in the process of working on a new comic and storyboarding some other stuff, but the allure of learning some new stuff and building some website prototypes has well... ballooned in my mind share as of the last few days.

Maybe it'll pass on it. Maybe I'll be consumed with it. Or maybe I'll keep patching this old site and let it limp along as it is. I would love a truly new and modern looking website.

I'm not certain yet where this road will take me, but I'll keep you posted.

I hope you're having a good and safe Saturday (and rest of the weekend). I'll see you next week!
