This is a portrait of the Ferrywoman, the character Kamiko first meets when she transitions from being alive to being, well, not-alive, and not mortal any longer. You can also call her Death or a Shinigami but she doesn’t really answer to those monikers.

There’s three inspirations for her character:

• The Ferryman from Herman Hesse’s Siddhartha.
• Maetel from Galaxy Express 999.
